AustinUP is proud to introduce our new intern, Jillian Jacobs. She will be helping us create an advocacy campaign targeting employers (for profit and nonprofit) to promote the benefits of multigenerational workplaces and the value of older workers. Jillian shares some of her background and interests below.

Hello, AustinUP, I’m Jillian Jacobs! I’m currently an advertising student at Texas State University with minors in business administration and music. I am a military brat who was born in Hawaii, but I have called Austin my home for over 21 years.

I’m someone who passionately cares for others. This can be traced to my early high school years surrounding myself with projects geared to help younger generations and those less fortunate. Just recently I started volunteering with Big & Mini, which fosters connections and communication across generations. I believe that the care that you give to others can lead to a greater change in our world.

After graduating from Round Rock High School in 2016, I got my basics out of the way at Austin Community College. In the fall I will be starting my final year at Texas State. For two years now I have been a Bobcat! My diligent study habits have been recognized three times with Dean’s List honors.

When I’m not in the classroom I enjoy spending time outdoors. In the summer season you can find me on the San Marcos River. If I’m not floating down the river, I am enveloped in another one of my favorite pastimes – music. Growing up I was surrounded by music. If it wasn’t my Mom’s vocals ringing throughout the house, or my Dad’s music blasting from a speaker, it was my brother strumming the guitar in his room.

To wrap things up, I’m a hard worker who is dedicated to overcoming challenges presented to me and I am excited to see where my work with AustinUP leads me.
