AustinUP Q&A: Literacy Coalition of Central Texas

Info

AustinUP is excited to host this Q&A with representatives from the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas to put a spotlight on their work AND their recruitment efforts to fill their open AmeriCorps positions.

The Literacy Coalition believes everyone should have the skills they need to reach their full potential and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive literacy services. They envision a community that is 100 percent literate, employable and self-sufficient and they partner with AmeriCorps as an intermediary organization in order to help meet their goals across the state of Texas.

AmeriCorps is a one-year, paid, voluntary civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations and other donors that engages adults in public service work to improve lives, strengthen communities and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering, all with the ultimate goal of eliminating poverty. State and national members serve in communities in all 50 U.S. states, territories and select tribal nations. Members teach at after-school programs, create economic opportunity, respond to disasters, protect the environment, work with veterans, build healthy future  and connect communities across America.

AmeriCorps VISTAs are capacity builders. They help to improve health services, create and evaluate programs, strengthen community groups, conduct outreach – and much, much more. VISTA members and their service sites create, implement, expand and improve programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
